Behind the scenes with aspiring filmmaker, UC Berkeley Library Work+Learn student

Sofia Daniels dreams of becoming a filmmaker.

When she’s not studying anthropology and film as an undergraduate, Daniels takes part in the Library’s Work+Learn program, producing videos that highlight the people, events, collections, and spaces at the UC Berkeley Library. Here, she is developing skills that are directly related to her career path — and ones she will carry with her into the future.

“So much of the job is learning by doing, which I’ve discovered is how I learn best,” said Daniels, who expects to graduate in 2021. “When you’re actually thrown into doing something, you realize it’s not so difficult.”

Her ultimate goal? To make documentaries, having been inspired by the likes of Planet Earth.

Watch a Q&A with Daniels, led by an unexpected interviewer: herself.
