New Resource Alert: OnePetro

OnePetro Logo

The UC Berkeley Library is pleased to announce that we have added OnePetro to our ever growing collection of online resources for faculty, staff, and students.

OnePetro is a searchable database of publications in the oil and gas exploration and production industry and includes conference papers and journal articles from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Petroleum Institute (API), NACE International, the International Society of Polar and Offshore Engineers (ISOPE), and more. While the UC Berkeley Library has provided print access to publications from these societies in the past, OnePetro provides an easy one-stop shop online for instant access to the papers you need.

More information about OnePetro can be found on the OnePetro site.

Physics Department Colloquia

Did you know that webcasts of the weekly Physics Department Colloquia are hosted and preserved by the Library? Links to the weekly talks as well as the annual Oppenheimer and Segre lectures from 2007-present can be found on the Physics Department’s Colloquia and Webcasts page. Earlier talks are cataloged in Oskicat.

NOTE: The older webcasts are provided as QuickTime files. To view a webcast, download the free QuickTime Player software from the Apple website then click on the colloquium you would like to view.

LandScan 2012 now available

UCB patrons can now access the 2012 LandScan data through EastView Cartographic?s web interface. Oak Ridge National Laboratory produces the annual LandScan datasets through population modeling algorithms, creating a roughly 1km resolution global population distribution map. The LandScan Global Archive data is available for the years from 2000 to 2012. The data can be explored directly through EastView’s web map interface. Alternatively, you can download datasets by country or through a user-defined custom area for use in a GIS program.

The science libraries of UC Berkeley have recently purchased the Springer Biomedical and Life Sciences Book Archive, more than 7,500 e-book titles whose original copyrights date from 1910 through 2004. The collection includes books in the subject areas of agriculture, biochemistry, cell biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, forestry, microbiology, neuroscience, plant sciences, and soil science, among others.

These e-books join the more than 20,000 previously purchased Springer Book Archive e-book titles in five additional subject collections:

  • Chemistry and Materials Science
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Physics and Astronomy

Springer eBooks are available as cross-platform-compatible PDFs at both book and chapter level. Springer also offers the MyCopy print on demand option for most English-language titles.

The books can be accessed by searching Oskicat, or by searching or browsing the Springer e-book website.
